Hunt Camp for Manitoulin Island

An interesting project for us in 2019 will be the build of a hunt camp/retreat cabin that will be for a client on Manitoulin Island here in Ontario.

You’ll notice there are no windows in the living room gable, which is not typical. Normally there would be windows in the gable, but given the nature of the hunt camp this wall needs to be uninterrupted as it will be a dedicated ‘trophy’ wall.

The foundation for this log cabin will be post and beam. Typically a solid poured concrete wall would be used, but the post and beam approach with a spray foamed floor system is surprisingly economical for a hunt camp, which doesn’t need to be built to the same standards.

A large deck will also be included for outdoor living space at the camp.

Project Highlights

  • 32′ x 40′ footprint (1280 sq.ft.) with interior log wall
  • Second floor system – Log Post & Beam
  • Roof system – Log Ridge Beam with intermediate purlins, 10/12 pitch
  • Classic round log styling inside and outside
